Philippine President Duterte admits being at a loss getting Beijing to honour South China Sea ruling

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte acknowledged that he is running out of options in his efforts to press Beijing to adhere to an arbitration decision that favoured Manila in its dispute with Beijing over claims in the South China Sea.

Speaking at a news conference on September 4, 2019, Duterte even asked reporters if they had any suggestions for him regarding persuading Chinese leaders.

Beijing has rejected a 2016 decision by an arbitration tribunal at The Hague favouring the Philippines and rejecting Chinese claims to disputed territory in the South China Sea.
